Hayman & Hill 2004 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir Tasting Notes:
This is a great wine, and considering that anything with the Santa Lucia Highlands label sells for $35 and up, also a good value. While it’s certainly not as concentrated as its more expensive brethren it still has the classic Santa Lucia trademarks of cranberry and round, silky fruit. A pet project of David Hayman, an executive at Blackstone Winery and Dennis Hill, the chief winemaker at Blackstone, the wine reflects both partners’ obvious love of the art of winemaking. While Blackstone wines are made in large quantities and are usually pretty boring this is made in tiny quantities and it takes a couple of hours to open fully. Based on this it should age pretty well and I would love to taste it in a couple of years.

12/23/06: I had the Hayman & Hill at a Christmas party last night and it is still very good.
